Turkey Time in Texas

I went out to see how things in turkey land are shaking out and sure enough, the breeding season is in full swing. Here are a few from Saturday morning.

Blue Lacy

Just got back from a central Texas trip where I photographed Julie Neumann and her beautiful Texas Blue Lacy dog for an upcoming magazine article.

This set-up is easy...

For the dog shots I just used an 85mm f1.2 lens. For the dog and Julie, I lit it using a single flash to the camera left.

Super, super easy stuff.

A New Ad

One of my images came out in a new ad for HS Strut decoys. I love collaborating with designers and art directors on helping their vision come to life in ads.

This is a tongue-in-cheek ad but effective nonetheless.

The Pig Bomb

I went out with my buddy Luke Boedeker yesterday. Luke is a pilot and is sometimes hired by ranchers to perform animal damage management on ranches where the feral pig population is out of control.

Also, I have to mention that Luke is a cool guy with the coolest aircraft I've ever seen.

Anyway, I went flying with him over a Texas Rolling Plains ranch and helped him help the ranchers with the pig problem.

If you don't understand the feral pig issue and the problems the cause for ranchers and indigenous wildlife, check out the video below.

Then, check out a few images from the trip.

Hogs in the Swamp

Last weekend I spent a little time with my buddy Chris Eubanks from Kirksey, Kentucky. Chris is a former magazine editor with whom I became friends after we did work together a few years ago. While he is now out of the magazine business, Chris and I continue to stay in touch and last weekend we spent a little time photographing and pig hunting.

Here are a few outtakes...
