Now while this video is conceptual, it is just a peek at where technology is headed for the print industry. While I predict magazines and books will be around for a while, these coming tablet readers offer some exciting opportuinites for photographers and wannabe videographers like me.
Here a quick vignette of some behind the scenes video my brother Bubba shot on a recent photo shoot.
For you camera nuts, you'll see that lighting was pretty straightforward. I used either a gold reflector or a flash shot through an umbrella (expertly handled by my buddy Tom Drinkwater) combined with natural light for most of the images.
This is a long time coming but between flooding and camera troubles, I am a few months late in finishing this project but I am starting to make headway.
Bubba and I just finished up a weekend of dove shooting with our dad. In this episode, I do a little explaining about why dove hunting is so appealing.
A long time coming, this latest episode of Hunt Junkies is the first ever fishing episode and takes place in the beautiful Devils River country of Southwest Texas. Adventure, funs, and even an untimely death ;)
A brand new season of Hunt Junkies has Bubba and I in Henrietta, Texas at the Clay County Turkey Fest. Tough weather and tough birds made this a memorable hunt.
Be sure to check out the new title sequence as well as the first ever Hunt Junkies in HD! All shot with a Canon 5D Mark II digital SLR.
I often use things like motion sensing video and still cameras to scout for wildlife. Over this two day span last summer, I got a cool variety of critters.
On the channel, you can check out all of the videos in one spot, comment on the videos, and if you subscribe to the channel, you'll be updated each time a new video is posted.
Saturday I went back to my home woods in Fannin County, Texas to hunt deer with my brother. What I found I can't explain.
While I knew that logging was taking place on the land, I never knew that they'd take all of the timber. Standing there I was torn between the sadness of seeing the woods of my boyhood gone and the optimism of trying to make something out of the situation.
While it's ugly now, I know that all is not lost. Still, it is hard for me to stomach.
To see a bit of background on why this is happening, check out Hunt Junkies 1.2 from last fall.
Last week, stud helicopter pilot Dusty Whitaker showed up in Childress with his helicopter to help us catch some surplus deer out of the Childress High School deer area.
Helping me were Derek Moore, Toby Tucker, and John Wilson and take a look at my Realtree Rack Report:
I took a flight over parts of the Pease River in Northwest Texas this evening. I flew by helicopter and stitched 441 images using Final Cut Pro into the video below.
This past weekend, me and the family traveled to far West Texas to once again experience one of the crown jewels in Texas - Balmorhea State Park. Balmorhea is an oasis in the desert. Where San Solomon Springs bubble from beneath the rocks, the Civilian Conservation Corp built a pool around the springs back in the 1930's.
This place is so cool as a destination to swim and just hang out in the Texas desert. The pool is full of Mexican tetra, soft-shelled turtles, catfish, and the endangered Comanche Springs Pupfish (see first image below).
Be sure to check out the pics and the video I shot. All of these images AND the video was shot with the ultra-cool Canon G9 point and shoot camera in a Canon underwater housing.
April brings a new season for the popular Hunt Junkies web series.
This time, you'll hear a new theme song...
Thanks to the incredible talents of singer/songwriter Shane Jennings of Abilene, he came up with a fabulous bluesy number complete with the slide guitar.
Aside from being a talented musician, Shane is also an avid hunter and a heck of a photographer.
I've started experimenting a bit with multimedia storytelling and so far, I like what I'm discovering.
This presentation involves marrying traditional photographs, audio interviews, ambient sounds, and music so that the subject takes on a new life. Think of National Public Radio's All Things Considered program but with pictures..
The thing I never liked about video is that too many things are revealed and nothing is left to the imagination. With photography, I could never convey motion in all the ways that I'd like. With this hybridization of mediums, the interview I did with my brother brings a new dynamism to my website.
Texas Faces is a presentation I did about eight months ago that appears in the Gallery Section of the website. It recieved so much praise, I thought it would be great to re-introduce the piece on the blog.
I don't know if you watched this video on the main site, but it bears adding to the blog.
The story behind this video is that it is a stop motion animation of more than 6,000 still images I coolected from a Moultrie I-60 game camera. Add a little music, speed up the images, and you have the making of an awfully cool video.
