Do you remember when you first fell in love? |

With hunting that is… If you are like many of us, your introduction to hunting came by chasing rabbits through tangled rose thickets or jump shooting ducks. |
Small game runs the gamut of species. Quail, doves, rabbits, squirrels, and waterfowl are small game species worthy of pursuit. |
The cool thing about small game, or at least a good reason to celebrate it in words and photos is the variety and abundance of game. If you or someone you know wants to hunt, you can still find ample opportunities. |
On Christmas Eve, I took my brother’s stepson on his first rabbit hunt on the same land where I used to prowl when I was his age. As I kicked the wiregrass and walked along a dilapidated barbed-wire fence trying to spook a fat cottontail, my mind hastily drifted back to when I was twelve and in an instance, I was reconnected with my past. |
In the end, harvesting game is immaterial. Hunting small game is all about the people, and the dogs, and the game, and the experience. |
Maybe it’s time for you to fall in love all over again... |

Lots of ink, air time and attention is paid to big game like white-tails, and elk. Rightly so, I supposed. But for every world class deer hunter, you’ll find a squirrel or quail hunter at heart. |
